Wooden Weather Vanes

Weather vanes, also known as wind vanes are used to detect the direction of the wind. Weather vanes are usually attached to an elevated object, mostly rooftops to indicate the policy of the wind. The weather vane has evolved as a gorgeous collectible and unusual piece of folk art. It is often found in the shape of cockerels, popularly known as weathercocks. However, other shapes such as arrows, pigs, angels, cows and many other designs can now be found in the form of weather vanes. They are made of separate materials such as copper, brass, sheets of metal and wood.

Wooden vanes are part of the original architecture of weather vanes. Shapes of separate animals, birds or statues are carved out on the wood to define the form of vanes.
